Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals establishing or operating a business providing self-employment, as well as those establishing a new venture as part of a larger organisation.

These individuals use well developed skills and a broad knowledge base to solve a range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have responsibility for the output of others.

Ideal Audience

Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and Business is a course for those who are:

  • Seeking to establish their small business by establishing legal and risk management requirements
  • Seeking to learn to plan and manage business finances, undertake small business planning, promote innovation in the team environment and build client relationship and business networks.
  • Seeking a pathway to higher education qualifications

Ideal audience will include international students. Students will usually be new entrants; however, credit and/or RPL can be provided for those with existing skills and knowledge allowing such students to complete the course in a shorter timeframe.  On successful completion students will be issued with nationally recognised qualifications and/or statements of attainment.

Career Pathway
Students who complete this course can expect to gain work as Small Business Manager/Owner. Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into such courses such as:
  • BSB50120 – Diploma of Business
  • BSB50420 – Diploma of Leadership and Management
Industry/ Enterprise/ Licensing Requirements

There are no industry / enterprise or licensing requirements for this qualification.

Course Duration

40 scheduled tuition weeks and up to 10 weeks of holidays (50 weeks total)

Students will participate in a total of 1000 hours of training, learning and assessment activities.

This includes 20 hours of class each week.

In addition, students will be required to complete 5 hours of homework/online/self-study each week which may involve reading their textbooks, class materials, discussing their work with their trainer/assessor and/or other students and completing assessment tasks that are not done in class such as projects.

Entry Requirements and Academic entry requirements

The Training Package states that there are no prerequisites or mandatory entry requirements for this qualification, allowing flexible entry points.

This course is available to students who are able to provide evidence that they:

  • have completed year 12 or equivalent
  • are over the age of 18
  • meet ONE the following English proficiency requirements of this course:
    • evidence of holding any of the following English language test scores within the last 3 years

  • be able to provide any of the following evidence of English Language competence
    • that they were educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country.
    • that they have successfully completed their Year 12 or equivalent in English Language.
  • have the required level of Language, Learning and Numeracy skills required by the course by
  • completing a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment conducted by an EduNex Training Trainer/Assessor which includes a written test and interview to complete the verbal component of the test. For international students applying from their home country this will be completed during a skype interview. For all students applying within Australia the test will be completed during an interview at the RTO.
  • The LLN test also assists EduNex Training to assess whether or not students’ LLN skills are at a level suited to the course requirements. It also assists our trainers to prepare individual learning plans for each successful applicant where skill weaknesses are identified.
  • For international students: it is a condition of entry that upon acceptance, students provide evidence of having an Australian Student Visa (subclass 500). Assessment Methods

Definitions of each of these methods has been drawn from the ASQA Guide for developing assessment Tools (page 5), https://www.asqa.gov.au/sites/g/files/net2166/f/Guide_to_developing_assessment_tools.pdf

  • Direct observation – this can sometimes happen using simulated environments in the classroom, or where interaction with students is required, this will occur in the workplace at a site visit.
  • Product based methods – these are generally reports, displays, case studies and presentations.
  • Questioning – written questioning is used for a number of assessment tasks. This can be done verbally as a reasonable adjustment for students with disabilities impacting their ability to complete written tasks.

Where evidence is gathered over a number of assessments, successful completion of the unit of competency will only be judged after successfully completing each individual assessment.

Each unit is assessed individually as a clustered approach has not been taken.

Gap Training

If training is required to achieve a full qualification (and the candidate wishes to gain the full qualification), you are to document a plan for meeting the training needs and make appropriate arrangements.

Credit Transfer

Students with a significant amount of prior skills and/or knowledge or previous relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply for recognition of prior learning and/or credit transfer which may reduce the amount of training required
