This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply project management skills and knowledge in a wide variety of contexts. The job roles that relate to this qualification may include Contracts Officer, Project Administrator and Quality Officer.

Individuals in these roles work autonomously, and might be members of a project team, with no direct responsibility for overall project outcomes. Primarily, these roles would support wider project operations. They may use project tools and methodologies selectively to support organisational or business activities.

Target Market

Target groups for the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice are those who are:

  • Seeking to develop their skills and knowledge as a project manager.
  • Seeking to learn about the project life cycle and how to communicate effectively in written form
  • Seeking to gain a formalised understanding of project baselines, develop capabilities to engage with key stakeholders and colleagues, and adopt a project management framework of continuous improvement.

Seeking a pathway to higher education qualifications

Target groups will include international students. Students will usually be new entrants; however, credit and/or RPL can be provided for those with existing skills and knowledge allowing such students to complete the course in a shorter timeframe.  On successful completion students will be issued with nationally recognised qualifications and/or statements of attainment.

Career Pathway

Students who complete this course can expect to gain work as a Contracts Officer, Project Analyst, Project Administrators, and other roles ranging from clerical and administrative positions through to professional and management roles across a wide variety of industries including Public Administration and Safety, Construction and Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into such courses such as:

  • BSB50820 – Diploma of Project Management
  • BSB50420 – Diploma of Leadership and Management

Course Duration

40 scheduled tuition weeks and up to 10 weeks of holidays – 50 weeks total

Entry Requirements and Academic entry requirements

The Training Package states that there are no prerequisites or mandatory entry requirements for this qualification, allowing flexible entry points.

This course is available to students who are able to provide evidence that they:

  • have completed year 12 or equivalent
  • are over the age of 18
  • meet ONE the following English proficiency requirements of this course:
    • evidence of holding any of the following English language test scores within the last 3 years

Additional Requirements:

  • have the required level of Language, Learning and Numeracy skills required by the course by

    o    completing a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment conducted by an EduNex Training at the time of orientation to identify the support required by the students. This support will enable students to complete qualification in the required time.

    o    The LLN test also assists EduNex Training to assess whether or not students’ LLN skills are at a level suited to the course requirements. It also assists our trainers to prepare individual learning plans for each successful applicant where skill weaknesses are identified.

    o    The student must have basic computer skills to use word processing software like Microsoft Word and using internet effectively for research.

Condition of Entry:

  • For international students: it is a condition of entry that upon acceptance, students provide evidence of having an Australian Student Visa (subclass 500). Delivery Methods

Class based with homework. Students will participate in a total of 1000 hours of training, learning and assessment activities. This includes 20 hours of class each week.

In addition, students will be required to complete 5 hours of homework/online/self-study each week which may involve reading their textbooks, class materials, discussing their work with their trainer/assessor and/or other students and completing assessment tasks that are not done in class such as projects.

Assessment Methods

  • Direct observation, this can sometimes happen using simulated environments in the classroom, or where interaction with students is required, this will occur in the workplace at a site visit.
  • Product based methods – these are generally reports, displays, case studies and presentations.
  • Questioning – written questioning is used for a number of assessment tasks. This can be done verbally as a reasonable adjustment for students with disabilities impacting their ability to complete written tasks.

Where evidence is gathered over a number of assessments, successful completion of the unit of competency will only be judged after successfully completing each individual assessment.

 

Each unit is assessed individually as a clustered approach has not been taken.

Credit Transfer

Students with a significant amount of prior skills and/or knowledge or previous relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply for recognition of prior learning and/or credit transfer which may reduce the amount of training required
