Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of Early Childhood Education and Care settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support childrens wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously in a range of child care facilities such as long day care centres, occasional care facilities, early learning centres, family day care and kindergartens as an Early Childhood Educator.

52 Weeks/12 Months

EduNex Training require persons who undertakes this course to:

  • Be aged 18 years or over.
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform tasks related to recording care routines, maintaining education and care notes, providing written feedback to parents, recording medication and nutritional information, interpreting workplace policy and procedure, reporting hazards, preparing child development sessions.

The course has been structured into 7 clusters to train and assess units of competency together that have common skills and knowledge or because they share a common work function. This provides an efficient service delivery model whilst providing the learner with a logical learning sequence.  For more detail about how the units are clustered together, please refer to the Course Guide.

To successfully complete this qualification, students require eighteen (18) units of competence. Of these units 15 units are core units and 3 units are elective units.

Assessment will be conducted using a clustered model of assessment using assessor observation, the production of workplace products, written knowledge assessments, projects, case studies and completion of a work diary.

This allows the assessment of multiple skills and knowledge integrated into real workplace tasks and performances where possible. Clustered assessment recognises the assessment of skills and knowledge in the sequence as they would normally be performed in the workplace and is efficient.

Distance/Self-Paced Study with Trainer Workplace Visits and mandatory 240 hours of Work Placement. Note: Work Placement will take place in an Accredited Early Childhood Education and Care Service..

Work Placement requirements:

Students enrolled in the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care are required to participate in a mandatory of 120 Hours of practical Work Placement within an Accredited Early Childhood Education and Care Service. The time spent by the Student in Work Placement in this qualification is critical to ensure that the Student participates in regular work over the course duration. This is necessary to allow for a workplace context in the assessment and workplace observation which is a requirement of this qualification.

In order to meet Certificate III course requirements, it is recommended that a Work Placement of 1 shift per fortnight of 5 Hours duration take place over 24 shifts equalling 120 hours. This will meet the minimum mandatory requirement of 120 Hours of Work Placement within an Accredited Early Childhood Education and Care Service. Students will commence their Work Placement in Cluster 1, following orientation by the Workplace Supervisor.

Note to Students:

  • Work Placement Requirements – All Work Placement needs to be lodged in the EduNex Work Placement Logbook.

CHC50113 - Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

Description

This qualification reflects the role of Early Childhood Educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in Early Childhood Education and Care services. In doing so, they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.

  • Have Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform tasks related to recording care routines, maintaining education and care notes, providing written feedback to parents, recording medication and nutritional information, interpreting workplace policy and procedure, reporting hazards, preparing child development sessions.
  • Complete a compulsory LLN Assessment prior to course commencement.

 

The course has been structured into 13 clusters to train and assess units of competency together that have common skills and knowledge or because they share a common work function. This provides an efficient service delivery model whilst providing the learner with a logical learning sequence. The time spent by the Student in Work Placement in this qualification is critical to ensure that the Student participates in regular work over the course duration. This is necessary to allow for a workplace context in the assessment and workplace observation which is a requirement of this qualification.

In order to meet Diploma course requirements, it is recommended that a Work Placement shift of 7 Hours duration take place over 38 shifts equalling 266 hours. This will meet the minimum mandatory requirement of 240 Hours of Work Placement within an Accredited Early Childhood Education and Care Service. Students will commence their Work Placement in Cluster 1, following orientation by the Workplace Supervisor.
